Skin care often eludes so many of us. It’s like we don’t know what to do with it, or how to care for it. It’s different than our body-skin and should be cared for differently, but sometimes we just don’t get it right and it ends up betraying us. So what’s a girl to do with her skin care?

Natural Hair and Skin Care?
Of course, it’s related! So often, you hear naturals say “giiirl, if you’re going to rock that TWA (teeny weeny afro), your face better be beat. (Sigh, oh there’s our
abuse use of the English language again)”… or any other similarly-worded exclamation about the state of short natural hair and a perfect face. Natural ladies who don’t want to wear tons of makeup to ‘make up‘ for their lack of hair, have to worry about the state of their skin since it is so much more exposed when there is no hair to cover up the imperfections.
I’ve been there.
So it behooves us to care for our skin so that our faces can reflect the beauty that is inside and out.
You all know what I say about natural hair care – (say it with me) – “it should not be complicated.” Well, the same goes for our skin. So here are some basic tips for basic skin care; oh, and these are tips that work for me.
Tips for Basic Skin Care
Always follow a routine. Just like you have a hair routine, you should also have a skin care routine. Consistency is key, and you will see faster, longer-lasting results with consistent healthy skin care practices. No miracle product will give you better results than good, old-fashioned consistent care!

Take my word for it. I’ve tried just about everything on the facial-market!
Never go to bed angry, and never go to bed with makeup on. Because that will make your skin angry. And that breaks the first rule. So wash your face before bed, so your skin can breathe and rest.
Cleanse your face. You have to get the dirt, makeup, and the day off your face; so cleanse your face every day.
Use warm to hot water. Hot water helps to dissolve dirt faster, and it opens up your pores.
You know how you deep condition your hair? Well deep condition your skin, as well. A facial mask will usually take care of this. We don’t always see the damage to our skin, so in order to prevent damage, we should treat it regularly. Sun damage, dry skin, acne-prone, or aging – there’s usually a mask for that!
Oh, and get rid of that facial skin baggage by scrubbing off dead skin cells. Get a good scrub for your face. If you can’t find a scrub that you like, invest in a scrub brush. My spinning face scrubber has been such a lifesaver for days I just want to scrub my face with my regular cleanser. I love how it makes my skin feel!
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Yes, even if you have ‘oily’ skin. Our skin, just like our hair, needs moisture. You have to find the moisturizer that works best for you and slather that stuff on before bed so that your skin can soak up all that goodness while you sleep!
Drink lots of water. Yep, I know. But it works. Just like water flushes fat out of the body, it can help flush toxins from your skin. It helps to give you a clear complexion and gives natural moisture back to dehydrated skin. Because skin can be thirsty from the inside, too.
Eat well. This goes without saying. For everything.
Some people take hair vitamins to help their natural hair grow. I believe in vitamins for your body – so try some Biotin. It helps with hair, skin, and nails – three birds, one bird feeder.
Because throwing stones at birds is cruel and unnecessary. Those birds never did anything to you!
Last, but definitely not the least of these – be consistent with your skin care routine. Cleanse, tone, moisturize every day. Get in the habit of doing these things and your skin will show it. Healthy skin doesn’t happen overnight, be patient. Find what works for you and stick with it – don’t put your skin through a trolley of products and experiments without giving it time to like them or hate them. Give it what it needs, observe what it likes, and then stick with that.
My Skin Care
In this previous post, I shared with you what I use and told you a little bit about the oil cleansing method and why it works for me. I also showed you my most recent MySkinTrx haul. Check it out to learn more about the method behind my skin care.
Suffice it to say, I found something that works for me. For the past year, I have been using that and doing that.
I did fall off the wagon a bit. I ran out of my trusty facial supplies, and in between pay day and ordering replacements, I used other things. This was during a pretty stressful week at work that was also during the time I hate being a woman. So, stressing, bad food choices, and not having my usual face products brought about a slew of bumps and acne across my face.
My Skin Fix Using My Skin Trx
Right. So I have created a self-challenge to see how long it takes to repair this most recent damage. Same method, every night, using the same products. At the end of 7 days, I will update you on my face condition. If you want to join the challenge to fix your skin by trying My Skin Trx, and the oil cleansing method consistently for a minimum of 7 days; then check out the My Skin Trx website to find products that are best for your skin. I suggest beginning with the Essentials.
And because I want to help you out, I am offering a discount code for you to use when you’re ready to check out. It will give you a discount on your items, and more bang for your buck. Because your skin is worth it.
