Have you ever had a stressful day that leaves you pouring a glass of wine or making a cocktail at the end of it? All you want to do is sit down and relax and, for a moment, forget about everything else. Stress will do that to you! Our hair gets stressed, too. And yes, you can make a cocktail for your strands that will have them chillin’ in the moisture spot, with not a care in the world. Get ready for some DIYs…
Summer Hair Summer Care
It is summer. Duh, right? Because this ridiculous heat was no indication of how miserable it is out there.
Seriously, guys, even my sweat is sweating!
And even heat’s effect on the hair leaves much to be desired. You want to keep your strands moisturized, but the thought of a heavy moisturizer is more than you can bear. It burns your scalp, it melts, and it causes residue – both on your scalp and on your face! Ain’t nobody got time for that!
Ain’t nobody got time for that!
So caring for our natural hair in the summertime means lighter products with the same moisturizing, conditioning results. Without the weigh-down.
Natural Hair Leave-Ins
Leave-in conditioners have a few great properties:
- Conditions your hair after rinsing out your other conditioner, providing constant goodness to your strands.
- Soften your hair, leaving it easier to comb or brush through.
- Protects and repairs.
- Seals the hair’s cuticle after washing
Some leave-ins are liquid, and others are creamy-based. If you’ve followed me for some time, you know that my hair absolutely hates any creamy-based leave ins and prefers liquid to any custard, gelee, glaze, or pudding. But yours may love the creamy consistency of a good old fashioned butter. It really depends on the hair type, and preferences.
DIY Summer Leave-Ins
So I thought I would experiment with some homemade leave-in conditioning spritz-cocktails that my hair would love, and that would be light enough for summer. Click on the image below to see the video demonstration:
