On Sundays we deep condition…
Well, most Sundays, anyway.
I’ve been slathering a lot of gel on my hair this week. A. LOT. So I figured that today would be a great day to deep condition my super short TWA. I have had this product on my natural hair shelf for quite some time. It came in one of the subscription boxes that I ended up cancelling because they weren’t, well,… Curl Kit. Just saying. #thebest But I wanted to use this and give a short review of how it makes my hair feel.
Curl Girl offers products for curly hair on their website, and in various stores like Sally’s and Walmart. The products seem very similar to the Curly Girl line of products, but I’m not sure how they compare. There are videos on the site that show you how to use the products, and I will admit that I am. not. impressed. with the natural hair twist out that they show on the site. Not enough to make me want to purchase the products, as the model’s hair looks dry and damaged both in the beginning and at the end of the video.
I’ve never seen these products anywhere else – locally or otherwise. Probably wouldn’t have heard of Curl Girl outside of the subscription box.
So for Advertising, I give this product a 1.
I used the Retail Locator map on their site to find where their products are sold in my area. I can only get this product at my ‘local’ Sally’s, which is not convenient at all to get to from where I live or work.
For Availability, I give this product a 1.
For price, I give this product a 4.
The ingredients for the Masque are listed on the Sally Beauty website:
AQUA, DISSODIUM EDTA, BEHENTRIMONIUM METHOSULFATE, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, CETRIMONIUM CHLORIDE, BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA BUTTER), CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, DIMETHICONOL, COCOS NUCIFERA (COCONUT) OIL, CUCURBITA SP (PUMPKIN) SEED OIL (ABOBORA), TEA TREE OIL, OCTADECYL DI – T-BUTYLHYDROXYHYDROCINNAMATE, BEHENTRIMONIUM CHLORIDE HYDROLYZED COLLAGEN, HYDROLYZED KERATIN, METHYLCHLOROISOTHIAZOLINONE, METHYLISOTHIAZOLINONE, MAGNESIUM NITRATE, MAGNESIUM CHLORIDE, LACTIC ACID, PARFUM (BUTILPHENYL METHYLPROPIONAL, HEXYL CINNAMAL, LINALOOL)
They seem decent to me; so for ingredients I give this product a 4.
The product squeezed out of the tube easily, and was the consistency of a thick conditioner, like TresEmme or Pantene. Nothing too special about the consistency, but spread nicely into my strands.
For consistency, I give this product a 5.
I love the scent. Like a light fruity-flowery scent, maybe. But not strong at all. Plus parfum is last on the ingredients list so that is also a good thing.
I give this product a 5 for scent.
The application was a no-brainer. I spread it over my wet, freshly-washed hair in the shower, let the steam work its magic, and then used my scalp massager to get the product even deeper into my hair. I left it on for a couple of hours. I love products that are easy.
Application of this product earns it a 5.
Once I finally washed it out, my hair felt nice and soft. Like pillowy soft. I love how it feels… and the light pleasant scent, as well.
I would say the effects of this product on my hair give it a 5.
Longevity is more difficult. Usually I use a product more than once before reviewing; but with my TWA being so short, I don’t know that I will use this again so soon. Based on the way my hair feels now, I think the softness and shine should last as long as I keep my hair gel-free.
I will give this product a 4 for longevity for now, but I will update the score if needed after a few days.
My overall impression of this product is a 4.
I like it, but I’m not over the moon impressed… yet. That isn’t to say it is not a good product. But these come a dime a dozen, and I think a 4 is fair.
So the total Curlie Score for the Curl Girl Moisturizing Masque is 38, which gives it a 3.8 when divided by the number of categories.
Curl Girl earns a total of 4 Curlies.
